This is an anti-choice amendment to the state constitution in response to an Iowa Supreme Court case in 2018. The proposed language of the amendment states there is no right to abortion or required funding of abortion under the state constitution. This would open the door to more extreme attacks on the right to access abortion. Governor Reynolds called for this rollback of reproductive rights during her state of the state address.
For an Iowa constitutional amendment to be ratified, it must be passed by two consecutive General Assemblies then gain a majority of the votes in a direct vote.
